CDT 255 - Commercial Behind the Wheel


Description: Demonstration and skill development of basic maneuvers of driving a combination vehicle.  Driving proficiency development includes performing Pre-Trip Inspection to FMCSA Standards, basic control skills in backing, and operation of a Class A vehicle on public roadways. Also includes proper techniques for performing visual search, shifting, turning, space and speed management, and hazard perception.  Preparation for Commercial Driver's License (CDL) skill examination. Student will be responsible for all fees associated with the ADOT CDL Road Test.

  1. Pre-inspection
  2. Basic driving maneuvers
  3. Intermediate driving maneuvers
  4. Gear shifting
  5. Speed and space management
  6. CDL exam prep

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Inspect the critical vehicle components. (1,7)
  2. Explain and demonstrate basic maneuvers of driving a combination vehicle. (2-7)
  3. Control, back, shift, turn, and maneuver in restricted areas. (3-7)
  4. Synthesize and demonstrate the ability to maneuver a combination vehicle. (3-7)
  5. Demonstrate knowledge and skills needed to pass a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) skill examination. (1-7)
