EMS 294 - Community Health Paramedicine


Description: Community health paramedicine experience allowing the synthesis of standard of care and expanded scope of practice with comprehensive assessment, diagnostic technology, patient advocacy, and ethical and professional behaviors. Includes practice in patient-centered evidence-based paramedicine in the community setting.

Course Content:
  1. Paramedic standard of care and scope of practice: ethical and professional behaviors, social and cultural competence, and patient advocacy
  2. Factors of effective communication and decision making in critical care team dynamics
  3. Comprehensive needs and patient assessment
  4. Equipment and diagnostic technology: laboratory analysis and diagnostic studies
  5. Pharmacology
  6. Comprehensive patient assessment
  7. Differential diagnosis
  8. Patient management with expanded scope of practice: medical conditions, behavioral health, special needs, and home health care
  9. Management plan: on-scene management plan and social service resources
  10. Health information technology

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Synthesize community paramedicine standard of care and expanded scope of practice to perform a comprehensive patient assessment. (1, 2)
