AJS 292 - Intensive Police Certification


Description: Study of the roles, responsibilities, and procedures of law enforcement officers. This course contains the Arizona Peace Officers Standards and Training curriculum required for peace officer certification.

Prerequisites: Student must be appointed by an Arizona law enforcement agency.

Course Content:
  1. Traffic laws, control, and accident investigation
  2. Crime prevention theory 
  3. Crime scene investigation 
  4. Social and psychological factors in human interaction 
  5. Criminal law and procedure; juvenile law and procedure 
  6. Powers of the police to investigate and arrest 
  7. Search and seizure laws and procedures 
  8. The American court system and constitutional law 
  9. Civil law and process 
  10. Basic techniques of stopping, arresting and handling violators 
  11. Basic techniques of handling crisis cases, such as bomb scares, crowd/riot control, mental illness cases and active shooter cases 
  12. Defensive driving and vehicle control
  13. Physical, mental, emotional, and nutritional conditioning 
  14. Liability and use of force 
  15. Firearms safety and marksmanship 
  16. Ethical and culturally responsive policing
  17. Internal police culture
