HUM 241 - Humanities I Description: Cultural history of global civilization from the Neolithic to the Fourteenth Century. Scholarly examination of the great literature, philosophy, music, visual arts, and architecture achievements of human societies.

Course Content:
- Neolithic revolutions and ancient civilizations
- The development of cities and civilizations
- The development of global religious and philosophical traditions before 1500
- Art, music and architecture of selected human societies before 1500
- Issues of gender, race and class in human civilization before 1500
- The influence of the environment and the economy on human culture
- Theories, methods and scholarly writing in cultural history
Learning Outcomes:
- Classify ideas and artifacts within their respective historical and regional contexts. (1-4)
- Analyze the diverse influences on the ideas and artifacts created in global societies before 1500. (1-6)
- Evaluate the relationship between historical events and cultural response. (5-7)
