TDP 250 - Industrial Projects for 3-D Printing Description: Designing, modeling, and producing 3-D printed parts. Includes rapid prototyping to traditional large-scale production, operating scanners, processing scan data with software tools, and converting scan data to printable 3-D models. Exploration of the entire cycle from an original artifact to a scan-based model reproduction.

Course Content:
- Relationships between chemical structure, manufacturing process parameters, and material properties
- Appropriate material for a given design and manufacturing process
- Types of 3-D scanning technology
- 3-D models creation scan data
- Scan-based reverse engineering projects
- Part inspection techniques
Learning Outcomes:
- Evaluate software requirements for 3-D scanning applications. (3)
- Evaluate hardware requirements for 3-D scanning applications. (3)
- Describe the theory of operation and identify hardware components in a variety of 3-D printing equipment. (1,2)
- Operate, and perform basic troubleshooting on, 3-D printing and scanning equipment. (3-5)
- Apply software tools and design principles to create, modify, and process CAD models suitable for additive manufacturing. (3-5)
- Explain the role of additive technologies in commercial activities, from product development to production. (1,2)
- Plan additive manufacturing projects, including considerations of part requirements, material properties, cost, process selection, and post-processing. (5,6)
