GST 291 - Professional Engraving Description: Design, prep, and engrave a project which can consist of appropriate types of jewelry, knives, belt buckles, firearms, or other pieces that are used in the engraving profession. Individualized instructions will be discussed with each student to assist them with this final project.
Prerequisites: GST 192
Credits: 3 Lecture: 1 Lab: 6
Course Content:
- Engraving history and industry
- Advanced vise fixtures
- Advanced relief engraving
- Varied line and figure inlays using precious metals
Learning Outcomes:
- Explore the history of engraving and skills across various patterns, materials, and industries. (1)
- Design, fabricate, and use a variety of different vise fixtures and molds. (1-3)
- Design and execute intricate scroll work. (3)
- Demonstrate precious metal inlay. (4)
- Demonstrate expertise on a project according to accepted industry-relevant standards. (1-4)
