ICE 110 - Computed Tomography Clinical Education I


Description: Supervised clinical assignments follow a structured approach involving observation, assistance, and the achievement of specific computed tomography competency benchmarks over the course of a semester. These experiences are designed to help students develop essential skills in patient care and computed tomography positioning through a competency-based approach.

Course Content:

  1. Professional practice standards and ethics
  2. Image processing procedures
  3. Patient processing procedures
  4. CT scanning skills
  5. Technical procedures
  6. Patient care

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Demonstrate proper workplace conduct and uphold professional ethics in accordance to the healthcare agency and the CT department's policies. (1)
  2. Act upon written and verbal directives pertaining to image acquisition, electronic medical record functions, and patient care in a timely manner. (2)
  3. Evaluate patient risk prior to administration of contrast agents by checking labs and taking thorough patient history. (3)
  4. Create diagnostic CT images independently with specialized equipment, software and tools. (4)
  5. Effectively review patient history and physician order to apply appropriate or adjusted positioning techniques. (5)
  6. Follow patient care protocols before, during and after the examination. (6)

Required Assessment:
  1. Documentation of student clinical hours meeting or exceeding the program's minimum semester requirements.
  2. Maintenance of repetition log.
  3. Evaluations by the supervising technologist
