ELT 102 - Power Electronic Fundamentals Description: A survey of electronics fundamentals to include active device circuits, power supplies, sensors and variable frequency drives.
Prerequisites: ELT 101

Course Content:
- Electrical measuring instruments and safety
- Semiconductor theory and operation
- Diode circuits and power supplies
- Bipolar and field effect transistor biasing, operation, amplifiers and circuits
- Thyristor biasing, operation and circuits
- Discrete and analog sensors
- Variable frequency drives
Learning Outcomes:
- Measure DC and AC circuit parameters using safe practices for electronic test equipment. (1)
- Describe semiconductor doping, diode construction, biasing and operation. (2)
- Describe the operation of diode circuits, specialty diode circuits and power supplies. (3)
- Test diode circuits, specialty diode circuits and power supplies. (3)
- Describe the operation of bipolar and field effect transistor circuits and amplifiers. (4)
- Test transistor circuits including amplifiers. (4)
- Describe the operation of thyristor circuits. (5)
- Test solid-state relays. (5)
- Test discrete and analog sensors. (6)
- Operate a variable frequency drive (VFD) motor drive system. (7)
