BSA 496 - Internship Capstone: Business Description: Senior-level supervised field experience intended to build upon previous coursework, linking the theoretical with day-to-day practical applications by applying subject knowledge relevant to the workplace. Under the guidance of a faculty member and organization/industry representative, students will establish specific learning objectives and goals. S/U grading only.
Prerequisites: Program Admission. BSA 394 .
Credits: 3 Lecture: Varies Lab: Varies
Course Content:
- Organizational overview of assigned placement
- Integration of job description and organization's requirements
- Elements of documentation of experience
- Planning and time management
- Professional, legal, and ethical issues
- Communication, critical thinking, and problem solving
- Specialized equipment, tools, and software required in the placement
Learning Outcomes:
- Evaluate appropriate workplace behaviors and professional ethics.
- Evaluate discipline-specific knowledge and skills appropriate for the industry-specific professional workplace.
- Manage communication skills used throughout the internship experience.
- Assess the industry-specific use of specialized equipment, software, and tools as required.
- Propose solutions to identified industry-specific problems.
Required Assessment:
- Record of student work at worksite which could include logged hours.
- Contractual agreement that includes individual learning outcomes that are approved by supervising faculty
- Weekly reflection activities such as journal prompts, discussion questions, or reflective scenarios
- Intentional reflective assessments as specified by supervising faculty throughout the internship experience
- A minimum of two evaluations by the worksite supervisor
- Student's self-evaluation of overall experience
