LPN 105 - Development of Practical Nursing
Description: Introduction to theoretical concepts that direct practical nursing skills and development of practical nursing practice. Uses the nursing process as a framework for care and implementation of appropriate nursing interventions for the adult, obstetric, newborn, and pediatric client in the laboratory setting. Integrates the competencies of practical nursing practice to include client centered care, professionalism, communication, teamwork, collaboration, safety, quality, informatics, and evidence-based practice. Basic practical nursing skills are developed.
Prerequisites: Program admission.
Corequisite: LPN 101 , LPN 110 , and LPN 115 .

Course Content:
- Contribute to the assessment of the adult client
- Medication administration
- Wound care
- Sterile field
- NG tube insertion
- Foley catheter insertion
Learning Outcomes:
- Perform basic practical nursing skills on culturally diverse adult clients (Client Centered Care) (1-6)
- Function within own scope of practice as a member of the health care team to provide safe and effective physical, mental, and psychosocial care for adult clients (Teamwork and Collaboration). (1-6)
- Identify reliable sources for locating evidence-based research and clinical practice guidelines to assist in providing practical nursing care for the adult client (Evidence-based Practice). (1-6)
