AJS 227 - Victim Advocacy Description: The study of victim advocacy as a career choice, with the duties, educational background, types of advocacy, and varied locations of service. Develop self-care management while serving others experiencing trauma from victimization. This course requires 30 face-to-face observation hours in a victim advocacy setting.
Prerequisites: AJS 101 (may be taken concurrently)
Credits: 4 Lecture: 3 Lab: 2

- Fundamentals of victim advocacy duties
- Community based advocacy
- Systems based advocacy
- Self-care approach to victim advocacy
Learning Outcomes:
- Identify the differences between systems and community based advocacy. (2,3,4)
- Analyze the confidentiality awarded victim advocates. (2,3)
- Discuss the types of victimization that advocates may encounter. (1,2)
- Identify the resources and services victim advocates may have at their disposal. (1-5)
