LAW 275 - Bankruptcy


Description: Application of the legal process and procedures in bankruptcy, including jurisdiction, parties, investigation, interview, advising the client, and drafting documents related to the various bankruptcy options.

Course Content:
  1. Historical origins of bankruptcy.
  2. Current issues in bankruptcy.
  3. Jurisdiction of bankruptcy proceedings.
  4. Parties and their roles in bankruptcy proceedings.
  5. Investigation, interview, and advise the client.
  6. Drafting documents for each bankruptcy option.

  1. Explain the bankruptcy code and rules. (2,3)
  2. Describe the structure and jurisdiction of the bankruptcy court system and within the federal court system. (1,3,4)
  3. Explain the options of relief available under the Bankruptcy Code. (5)
  4. Explain the steps to commence a bankruptcy case. (6)
  5. Identify common actions taken by creditors and debtors in bankruptcy proceedings. (4)
