FMA 220 - Advanced Screenwriting Description: Advanced projects in writing a feature film script. Review of writing techniques, characters, story, conflicts, genres and formats of feature length screenwriting. Application of narrative structure and character development.
Prerequisites: FMA 103 and FMA 121

Course Content:
- Individual writing plan, outline and treatment
- Personal development in screenwriting style and storytelling techniques
- Narrative structure, plot points, character arcs, dialogue and emotional impact
- Historical and contemporary screenplay examples
- Presentation and critique of completed scripts
Learning Outcomes:
- Create an outline including projected screenplay concepts with a unified theme. (1)
- Develop skills in screenplay format, dialogue, and scene structure to reflect personal growth in style, pacing, and/or approach. (2,3)
- Evaluate genre films relevant to individual writing plan. (1,4)
- Create a complete critique-ready screenplay. (2,5)
- Identify the principles of narrative structure and character development. (3)
- Analyze traditional, historical, or contemporary examples of screenwriting. (4)
