DMS 110 - Sonography Clinical Education I

 

 
Description: Supervised clinical assignments follow a structured approach involving observation, assistance, and the achievement of specific sonography competency benchmarks over the course of a semester. Designed to help students develop essential skills in patient care, imaging practices, scanning protocols and techniques for various examinations through a competency-based approach.

Prerequisites: Program Admission.

Course Content:

  1. Organizational orientation of assigned placement
  2. Adherence to the professional practice standards
  3. Practicing in accordance with ethical standards
  4. Planning and time management
  5. Communication and critical thinking
  6. Specialized equipment, tools, and software

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Clearly articulate job responsibilities and position within the assigned organization. (1)
  2. Demonstrate proper workplace conduct and uphold professional ethics. (2,3)
  3. Act upon written and verbal directives to fulfill assigned duties. (4,5)
  4. Employ technical terminology in both written and verbal communication. (5)
  5. Practice critical thinking and ethical awareness. (5)
  6. Utilize specialized equipment, software, and tools as necessary. (6)

Required Assessment:
  1. Documentation of student clinical hours meeting or exceeding the program's minimum semester requirements. 
  2. Daily log of exams: observed, assisted or performed.
  3. Maintenance of competency log. 
  4. A minimum of two evaluations by the clinical coordinator.

    a. Midterm Affective Evaluation

    b. Final Affective Evaluation

  5. Students evaluation of the clinical site and clinical preceptor. 6. Image analysis oral presentation.
