DMS 121 - Introduction to OB-GYN Procedures
Description: Introduction to the foundational principles of obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound. Includes the key terminology, anatomy, measurement techniques, clinical indications, and common normal vs. abnormal patterns. Emphasizes image interpretation and clinical reasoning to prepare students for hands-on OB-GYN scanning in the clinical environment.

Course Content:
- Foundations
- Anatomy and gynecologic evaluation
- First-trimester development and complications
- Second-trimester routine anatomy
- Placenta, cord, amniotic fluid and cervix
- Common findings
- Clinical preparation
Learning Outcomes:
- Describe normal pelvic and reproductive anatomy and physiologic changes across the lifespan. (1-2)
- Recognize sonographic appearance of normal early pregnancy and common first trimester complications. (3)
- Identify key fetal structures and standard biometry used during routine second and third trimester exams. (4)
- Differentiate normal from abnormal patterns in placenta, amniotic fluid, and cervical assessment at a basic level. (5)
- Describe common gynecologic conditions that are frequently evaluated with ultrasound. (6)
- Communicate patient clinical history and observed sonographic findings to supervising staff. (7)
- Escalate a case to a supervising sonographer or physician. (7)
