ELT 235 - Integrated Manufacturing Systems Description: Concepts and technologies of integrated manufacturing systems including robotics, instrumentation, computer numerical control (CNC), programmable logic controllers (PLCs), supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, industrial communication protocols, and human-machine interfaces (HMIs). Emphasis is placed on system design, interoperability, and real-world applications. Hands-on experience with integrated manufacturing systems.
Prerequisites: ELT 230 (may be taken concurrently)
Credits: 3 Lecture: 2 Lab: 2
Course Content:
- Control systems including programmable logic controllers (PLCs)
- Robotic, computer numeric control, and auxiliary equipment integration
- Supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA)
- Industrial communication protocols
- Human-machine interfaces (HMIs)
- Applications
Learning Outcomes:
- Compare and contrast control systems used in manufacturing including PLCs, CNC, and SCADA systems. (1-3)
- Describe common communication protocols used with robots and other manufacturing equipment. (4)
- Set up a variety of HMIs. (5)Integrate manufacturing systems including a robot to perform a manufacturing task. (1-6)
- Select appropriate equipment for an integrated manufacturing work cell given an example task. (1-6)
- Identify tasks suitable for collaborative robots and traditional industrial robots. (6)
