GST 211 - Firearms Part Design and CNC Simulation


Description: Emphasis is placed on digital modeling, tooling sequence design, and numerical control (NC) code generation for computer numerical control (CNC)-based manufacturing processes.

Prerequisites: Program Admission. GST 101 (may be taken concurrently).

Course Content:
  1. Introduction to digital gunsmithing
  2. Fundamentals of 3D modeling for firearms
  3. Technical illustration and design communication
  4. Tooling and machining sequencing
  5. CNC simulation and virtual machining
  6. Numerical Control (NC) Code fundamentals

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Design three-dimensional firearm components using industry-standard software. (2)
  2. Illustrate component geometry and technical specifications suitable for machining applications. (3)
  3. Develop tooling sequences and simulate lathe operations for digital manufacturing workflows. (4,5)
  4. Generate and verify Numerical Control (NC) code to ensure accurate and efficient machining processes. (6)
  5. Evaluate design integrity, manufacturability, and adherence to gunsmithing safety and quality standards. (1)
