IHF 160 - T'ai Chi

 

 
Description: Ancient Chinese martial movement art form practiced for health, relaxation, meditation, self-cultivation and self-defense. System of rounded, fluid and balanced movements, played slowly in a continuous manner. Suitable for all fitness levels.

Course Content:

  1. Basic T'ai Chi principles
  2. Fundamental stances and footwork
  3. Hand forms and upper-body movements
  4. Short T'ai Chi form
  5. Partner work

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Demonstrate key principles of alignment, rooting, relaxation, and breath in T'ai Chi practice. (1)
  2. Demonstrate fundamental stances and footwork with correct weight transfer. (2)
  3. Perform essential hand forms and upper-body movements with coordinated posture. (3)
  4. Execute a short T'ai Chi form with smooth, continuous transitions. (4)
  5. Apply T'ai Chi techniques for relaxation, stress reduction, and meditative awareness. (1-5)
  6. Demonstrate basic partner drills for improved balance, sensitivity, and self-defense awareness. (5)
