Description: Study of bones, joints and muscles while developing palpation skills with practical application in concurrent massage class experience.

Course Content:

  1.  Muscle anatomy for massage practice
  2.  Palpation skills for muscles
  3.  Skeletal anatomy and bony landmarks
  4.  Palpation of bony structures
  5.  Body planes, directions, and positions in massage
  6.  Joint structure, types, and function
  7.  Fascia, posture, and pain patterns
  8.  Circulatory, lymphatic, and nervous structures relevant to massage

Learning Outcomes:
1. Summarize the muscles of the body including their location, actions, origins and insertions. (1)
2. Demonstrate palpation of muscles. (2)
3. Describe the anatomical features of the bones in the body. (3)
4. Demonstrate palpation various bony parts on specific bones. (4)
5. Utilize the various body planes of movement, directions and positions during massage. (5)
6. Summarize the types and function of joints. (6)
7. Analyze the function and types of fascia and its effect on posture and pain. (7)
8. Explain the location and function of the blood supply, lymphatic drainage and innervations of major sites in the body. (8)
