Description: Introduction to massage history, benefits and contraindications, draping, hygiene and safety, relaxation massage techniques and benefits, and business and ethics.

Course Content:
1. History and foundations
2. Professionalism, ethics, and boundaries
3. Indications, contraindications, and benefits
4. Anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology 
5. Relaxation massage theory and techniques
6. Body mechanics and therapist self-care
7. Clinical application: full-body relaxation massage sequence
8. Draping, hygiene, sanitation, and safety
Learning Outcomes:

  1. Explain the history, ethics, boundaries, contraindications and benefits of massage therapy. (1, 2, 3, 8)
  2. Use anatomy and medical terminology related to massage. (4)
  3. Compare the meaning and function of each of the strokes used with relaxation massage. (5, 7)
  4. Demonstrate fundamentals of body mechanics while giving a massage. (6, 7)
