NSG 350 - Nursing Research and Evidence Translation


Description: Overview of the research process and utilization of evidence for optimal practice. Discussion of strategies to evaluate research for application will be discussed as a means of evidence translation.

  1. Nursing research concepts
  2. Ethics in research: human subjects, informed consent
  3. Research methodology: quantitative, qualitative
  4. Research components: PICOT
  5. Critical appraisal of research literature
  6. Evidence-based practice project
  7. Translating evidence to practice 

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Compare and contrast the purposes and methods of quantitative research, qualitative research, evidence-based practice, and innovation articles.  (1-3)
  2. Evaluate competency in finding and reading research/inquiry articles from peer-reviewed journals. (3,5)
  3. Conduct a critical appraisal of literature that demonstrates an understanding of quantitative and qualitative research. (3,5)
  4. Collaborate with colleagues in the use of an evidence-based practice model. (6)
  5. Create clinical practice questions using PICO(T) that focuses on a clinical issue to improve the quality of care. (4)
  6. Disseminate the process used for the application of the evidence-based practice model. (7)
