AFL 401 - National Security & Commissioning Preparation


Description: It is designed for college seniors and gives them the foundation to understand their role as military officers and how they are directly tied to our National Security Strategy. It is an overview of the complex social and political issues facing the military profession and requires a measure of sophistication commensurate with the senior college level.

Course Content:
The Air Force Series 400 cadet should comprehend the essential national security policy and process elements. The student should know essential Department of the Air Force operations and understand selected roles of the military in society and current domestic and international issues affecting the military profession. Cadets should realize the responsibility, authority, and functions of a Department of the Air Force commander and selected provisions of the military justice system. The final portion of the Air Force Series 400 course is designed to prepare cadets for life as a second lieutenant. This an excellent time for instructors to include any information they feel would help their cadets transition from civilian to military life.
Learning Outcomes:
  1. Exhibit knowledge of the essential national security policy and process elements.
  2. Understand the air and space power functions and capabilities.
  3. Understand the selected roles of the military in society, current issues affecting the military profession, and selected provisions of the military justice system.
  4. Exhibit knowledge of an Air Force commander's responsibility, authority, and functions.
  5. Apply listening, speaking, and writing skills in Air Force particular formats and situations with accuracy, clarity, and appropriate style.
  6. Understand the factors facilitating a smooth transition from civilian to military life.
