AVT 139 - Private Pilot Flight

 

 


Description: Introduces private pilot flight maneuvers and develops the flight proficiency required to earn an FAA Private Pilot Certificate with airplane category and single-engine land class ratings.

Prerequisites: Program Admission. AVT 137  (may be taken concurrently)

Course Content:
  1. Pre- and post-flight preparation and procedures
  2. Airport operations
  3. Takeoffs, landings, and go-arounds
  4. Ground reference and performance maneuvers
  5. Navigation and basic instrument maneuvers
  6. Slow flight and stalls
  7. Emergency and night operations

Learning Outcomes:
  1. Develop aeronautical decision making and risk management skills during pre- and post-flight preparation and procedures. (1)
  2. Apply airport and traffic pattern knowledge to controlled and uncontrolled airport operations. (2)
  3. Complete takeoffs, landings, go-arounds, and traffic patterns safely and legally. (3)
  4. Apply basic airmanship skills to performance and ground reference maneuvers. (4)
  5. Model safe airplane control during slow flight and stalls. (6)
  6. Utilize flight instrument and airmanship knowledge during basic attitude instrument flight maneuvers. (5)
  7. Utilize ground- and space-based navigation systems to conduct cross-country flight operations. (5)
  8. Plan safe, efficient, and legal night flight operations. (7)
  9. Practice emergency procedures while maintaining positive airplane control. (7)
