AVT 279 - Instrument Flight Instructor Flight
Description: Introduces and develops the flight proficiency required to earn an FAA Instrument Flight Instructor Certificate with airplane category and single-engine land class ratings.
Prerequisites: Program Admission. AVT 277 and AVT 269 (may be taken concurrently)
Credits: 1 Lecture: 0 Lab: 3
Course Content:
- Fundamentals of instructing
- Pre- and post-flight preparation and procedures
- Preflight lesson on a maneuver to be performed in flight
- Air traffic control clearances and procedures
- Flight by reference to instruments
- Navigation aids
- Instrument approach procedures
- Technical subject areas
- Emergency operations
Learning Outcomes:
- Apply fundamentals of instructing to all ground and flight activities. (1)
- Model safe, efficient, and legal pre- and post-flight preparation and procedures. (2)
- Build preflight lessons on flight maneuvers to be performed in flight. (3)
- Plan and deliver ground and/or in-flight lessons related to air traffic control clearances and procedures, flight by reference to instruments, navigation aids, instrument approach procedures, and emergency operations. (4, 5, 6, 7, 9)
- Construct ground and/or in-flight lessons related to technical subject areas such as airplane systems, air traffic control system, navigation systems, IFR clearances and procedures, IFR charts, and regulations. (8)
