Learning Outcomes:
- Convert numbers between digital number systems including binary, octal and hexadecimal. (1)
- Troubleshoot logic gates and combinatorial logic circuits. (2)
- Simplify complex logic circuits using Boolean algebra, sum-of-products and Karnaugh mapping. (3)
- Troubleshoot flip-flop, digital counter and other sequential circuits. (4)
- Troubleshoot registers, digital memory and storage devices. (5)
- Troubleshoot combinational logic devices including adders and subtractors, multiplexers and demultiplexers, encoders and decoders, and digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital converters. (6)
- Using an FPGA and VHDL, design and troubleshoot arbitrarily complex digital logic circuits and sequential machines given a reasonable problem statement. (7, 9)
- Using an FPGA and VHDL, design and troubleshoot an elementary microprocessor. (7, 8, 9)
- Set criteria to determine the "best" design and select the best design for implementation. (9)
