Athletic Coaching Certificate

The Athletic Coaching Certificate prepares the student for entry level employment through cross disciplinary instruction in the fields of exercise science, biology, psychology, physical education and first aid. In addition, this program prepares the student, or current coaching professional, for suc

cessful completion of the national coaching certification exam with American Sport Education Program (ASEP), which is an approved provider of coaching education to the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA).

Program Outcomes


Upon successful completion of the Athletic Coaching Certificate program, the learner will be able to:

  1. Develop a coaching philosophy and describe the benefits of an athlete centered coaching philosophy, including coaching objectives and communication style.
     (PHE 154, PHE 168, PSY 245)
  2. Discuss methods of teaching physical, mental, technical and tactical skills training, including strategies for team management.
    (PHE 150, 154, 168; PSY 245, BIO 160 or 201)
  3. Use assertive communication techniques and strategies for motivating various age groups and skill levels. (PHE 154, 168; PSY 245)
  4. Apply strategies for injury prevention and recognize exercise and sport related injuries and illnesses. (PHE 150)
