NSG 270 - Nursing Theory IV Description: Applies concepts of nursing care for clients with critical alterations in health. Emphasis is on high-risk and multi-system problems including concepts of acute medical-surgical and an introduction to critical care nursing. Uses the nursing process to analyze and synthesize previously learned concepts. Integrates the QSEN competencies to include patient-centered care, teamwork and collaboration, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, safety, and informatics.
Prerequisites: NSG 240 , NSG 242 , NSG 250 , NSG 260
Corequisite: NSG 272 , NSG 280

Course Content:
- Principles of nursing care of the client experiencing critical alterations: burns
- Principles of nursing care of the client experiencing hemodynamic alterations: shock
- Principles of nursing care of the client experiencing alterations in cardiac function: acute myocardial infarction, acute decompensated heart failure
- Principles of nursing care of the client experiencing alterations in respiratory function: acute respiratory distress syndrome, acute respiratory failure, ventilator management
- Principles of nursing care of the client experiencing alterations in neurological function: traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, chronic neurological diseases
- Principles of nursing care of the client experiencing emergent situations: triage and emergency nursing
Learning Outcomes:
- Design a patient centered plan of care that is individualized to the client's values, preferences, and needs for clients with critical alterations (hemodynamic, cardiac, respiratory, neurological). (Patient-centered Care)(1-6)
