REC 113 - Backpacking Description: Techniques for efficient backcountry hiking. Skills for the beginning backpacker; includes packing and travel tactics, safety and low impact camping. Must possess adequate physical abilities for backcountry travel with a backpack. Overnight trips required.

a. Southwest weather/seasons
b. Basic first aid

4. Low impact camping
a. Campsite/shelter selection and use
b. Stove use and fire pits
c. Sanitation and waste disposal
d. Wild land management and use
