LPN 115 - Pharmacology for Practical Nursing I Description: Introduction of principles of pharmacology as related to the nursing process to explore relationships occurring between anatomy, physiology, disease states, life stages, and medications. Introduction to national standards for safety in pharmacologic therapy. Integrates the competencies related to adult, newborn and pediatric patient centered care, professionalism, communication, teamwork, collaboration, safety, quality, informatics, and evidence-based practice.
Prerequisites: Program Admission.
Corequisite: LPN 101 , LPN 105 , and LPN 110 .

Learning Outcomes:
- Identify the principles related to medication administration that includes the patient as a full partner in providing compassionate, coordinated, age and culturally appropriate, safe, and effective medication administration (Patient Centered Care). (1-8)
- Identify how the practical nurse functions effectively within nursing and inter-collaborative teams when providing pharmacologic interventions for adult patients with uncomplicated to moderately complex medical disorders (Teamwork and Collaboration). (1-8)
- Describe resources used to support safe administration of medications to treat physical, mental, and psychosocial health care needs (Evidence-based Practice). (1-8)
- Describe strategies and tools to monitor the outcomes of medication administration for patients with uncomplicated to moderately complex medical disorders to continuously improve the quality and safety of healthcare systems (Quality Improvement). (1-8)
- Identify strategies to minimize the risk of harm to patients and providers through both individual performance and system effectiveness related to the pharmacologic care of patients (Safety). (1-8)
- Describe information technology skills necessary when administrating medications to patients with uncomplicated to moderately complex medical disorders (Informatics). (1-8)
