The Gunsmithing certificate prepares the student for direct employment as a gunsmith in an established shop.
Credits Hours Required: 48

Program Outcomes
Upon successful completion of the Gunsmithing Certificate program, the learner will be able to:
- Safely operate hand and machine tools common to the gunsmithing trade.
- Use micrometers, indicators, verniers and various gauges for measuring.
- Develop ballistic data and document research assignments.
- Disassemble and prepare firearms for metal finishing and reassemble.
- Identify, disassemble, and assemble different rifle operating systems.
- Prepare glass bed, install accessories, apply finish and checker a wood stock.
- Identify different top break shotgun operating systems.
- Identify, disassemble, and assemble, different handgun operating systems.
- Install rifle barrels using proven methods to enhance accuracy.
- Identify, repair and modify pistols and revolvers.
- Prepare glass bed, install accessories, apply finish and checker a synthetic stock.
- Design, set-up, machine and install specialty accessories encountered in the firearms industry.
- Communicate professionally with customers and vendors.
- Develop a business plan suitable for a small business loan application.
- Research and develop an accurate price list for performing technical services.
